Mediterranean Cruise Vacation Culture
When you go on a Mediterranean cruise vacation you will discover a wealth of different countries, cities, ports and cultures. There is much more diversity than something like a Caribbean cruise where all the islands are very similar.
There are seventeen different countries which have a shore on the Med as it is affectionately known. Each country has its own distinct flavor. The Mediterranean has been a major politically tactical sea over many centuries and the cities around it have been inhabited by many separate races and religions.
Islands such as Malta have been invaded by lots of different armies over the years. Each new civilization has left a bit of its own identity there.
I am sure that you have all heard of the Greek Empire from Greece and the Roman Empire from Italy which were the major world power in their time, just like America is today. In fact there were quite a few before America was even discovered my any peoples other than the natives.
In addition to that there is Egypt which has a history and culture of its very own as well as being famous for the Suez Canal which linked the old trading routes between the Med and the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea. You might even take a few days out to include a Nile cruise and see the famous Pyramids.
But I suppose that the best known place that you could visit whilst on a Mediterranean Cruise is the Holy Land. No cruise in the Eastern Mediterranean would be the same without a visit to Jerusalem and Nazareth, the most revered of all Christian places.
Whilst cruising around Italy you would be able to see the volcano of Mount Vesuvius, the old city of Pompeii, Venice which is so different from any place I have ever visited and of course, the capital Rome itself. There you will be able to go to the Vatican City which, of course, is the home of the Pope and the Catholic Church.
On Western Mediterranean cruises you will also have an opportunity to visit some Northern African countries such as Tunisia and Algeria which border onto the Sahara desert.
Let your mind wander and think what it was like to be a Venetian merchant, a Greek philosopher, a Roman centurion or an Egyptian Pharaoh. I was once on the island of Kos which was the birthplace of Hippocrates himself who was the father of medicine.
You will be able to find out how all these people lived and walk around the same streets that they walked around when you go on a Mediterranean cruise.
