There is no denying that one of the most important decisions you make when booking your `holiday is choosing where you`re going to stay. Accommodation has to be suited to your budget and your needs. A family with small children does not want find themselves in an apartment overlooking Palma`s bars and clubs.

The first thing that you need to consider is what kind of accommodation you want. Are you considering an all-inclusive resort style hotel or would you prefer a less structured deal and go self catering. Basically, if you opt for a resort, you should want for nothing and many people find this the best way to enjoy a holiday.

For those who prefer to do things for themselves, the simple decision they have to take is whether they want a hotel or a self-catering option. .In a hotel, you may only get bed and breakfast which means that you have to consider how close you are to amenities such as restaurants and bars. Ideally, you want to be within walking distance of the town to get to the restaurants. If you decide on the self-catering option then being close to shops and restaurants is again a priority. If you do decide to stay in accommodation further away from towns, then you need to think about transportation. Car hire might become an option.

Budget invariably comes into any decision regarding accommodation. Obviously an all-inclusive resort could prove to be very expensive whilst taking care of your own meals and entertainment can be much cheaper. The kind of holiday you want is also a factor. Families often opt for hotel resorts because they tend to have entertainment for kids or access to a family friendly pool. People without families may be more inclined to fend for themselves and choose a more independent option.

There is another option. Forget hotels and apartments but opt for a private villa. These more luxury accommodations are often ideal for a large group of people or a couple of families. Many private villas have their own pools and gardens meaning that for those with kids, there is plenty for them to do. The main benefit of a private villa is the privacy it affords.

Often the villa will be outside of the town so transport may be necessary but this can be arranged when booking the accommodation. It is assumed that renting a private villa for your holiday is prohibitively expensive but as ever there are plenty of deals to be found. In addition, if you travel in a larger group then costs can be shared and made much more reasonable. Staying in your own private villa is much more affordable than you might think.
